Letter To My Future Self
Dear Future self,
Using similar sentimental values and style of Matt Haig I have
injected emotive language to create a though provoking and perspective altering
letter to myself. The letter explores themes of metaphorical hope much like
Haig’s ‘Reasons To Stay Alive’ and I have adapted to his simplistic flare to
inspire my letter. Some of his simplistic techniques include asyndetic listing
and short declarative sentences which I have also used. The layout Haig uses
transforms biographical features into self-help guides through the use of
conventions of self-helps books. Similarly in my letter I have transformed it
into a self -help guide due to its relatable themes in order to aid both myself
and others like Haig makes his personal recount relatable for the purpose of
helping others.
Today I’m seventeen and I am planning for one day, and
without noticing one day is today and I am reading this letter and this is my
life. I, at present find it is perplexing to surmise that my life is a huge
room of thousands of doors that stand before me and my future is infinite. One
day my photographs will only be a fragment of my imagination and the music I
listen to will only remind me of all that lay ahead of me and it will make my
stomach curl to hear the lyrics which sound like the fabrication of my youth. I
will be the future I devise and the past will dissolve. I will encounter
individuals throughout my life before this letter reaches me who will ignite my
soul, Somehow we will piece together because regardless of how far this person
strays we will always gravitate back towards one another. Life has a peculiar
way composition and it is of tremendous interest to acquire an acceptance
towards universal flaws rather than loathe them.
I hope that you were audacious with your heart and that you
felt the coldest of nights were plagued with a distinct emptiness. I desiderate
that your chest felt destructed and that you were convinced you wouldn’t be able
to go on, because you preserved. Praise your attainments- your strength has
shaped you. Know that even if this letter finds you in a place of ill health or
time of grieving that strength circulates your veins.
The intergalactic existence
·
Take notice of the blueish tinge of your veins
-the haemoglobin molecules in your blood have a vast amount of iron which was
created by nucleosynthesis inside a star which exploded approximately eight
billion years ago.
·
You are made of stardust.
·
Let your mind dwell on your insignificance in
the larger concept of intergalactic existence.
·
You are alive for a fraction of a second. I hope
that fraction of a second is extraordinary.
·
You have never been before and you will never be
again.
·
Honour your existence.
·
You and everybody else are exceptional creations
and your existence was a conscious choice.
·
However bright you burn you will never burn out
-continue to radiate the light from your soul.
I hope that rejection did not prevent choices you have made.
Each decision you make creates a ripple into the future, so I hope you were
wise. I hope you consciously attracted people of like mind and stopped chasing
toxic individuals and cherished those who are in your company by choice instead
of focusing on those who are not. Your tendency to be naïve disappoints you
when people turn out to not be who you wanted them to be, but your creative imagination
is to blame for that. You cannot change people, they are responsible for making
adjustments and if they truly care they will- No exceptions. If they do not
have regard for you and want to leave then show them the way out.
Notable people from your past will leave imprints in your
being. Make sure you do not disassociate with those individuals as they are the
best tie to your past when it feels as though you have ventured too far from
the bygone version of yourself. Don’t forget your roots. Your Mother and father
created your being and whether they have passed away or not they will always be
the most considerable influence in your life. Let their success encourage you.
Fear should never discourage you. Falling
to the bottom may leave you dejected but eventually you will navigate upwards. No
one has an insight into the foreseeable future despite being convinced there is
no direction upward. Understand that on top of the mountain someday you will
see the spectacular view again.
Stop being worried to be happy because you fear that the
unknown will catch up with your happiness and prevent you from contentment.
Endure everything entirely- good or bad- learn from it, cherish it and let it
motivate you. Live up to your own expectations not others and do not let others
prevent you from your current position and where you want to be -the more you
let someone control you the wider the gap will become and you will lose sight
of your ambitions.
If you have a child be aware that he or she is a product of
love and don’t forget to remind them of that. When you stare at your child’s
face your eyes will gleam with compassion, realise that you have mastered your
objective. Let your child become the person they intend to be, because nothing
is worse than being refrained from your pathway, they are the architect of
their own existence. Their creativity
will inspire you and their mischievous behaviour will make for great stories
one day. Observe them as they grow and appreciate each day with them because as
you presently read this letter this moment too will become a figment of the
past. Life is fleeting.
Life is missed concert tickets, delayed flights and cancer
scares. Its debt, forgotten birthdays, bad breakups and broken down cars. It’s
the Death of family, friends, lovers and
pets. It’s no sleep, it’s too much sleep.
It’s deadlines and difficult people. It’s rain, its going back to work,
bad haircuts and breaking bones. Things end , pain is inevitable and happiness
is not a destination It ebbs and it flows. But there is so much in the world to
recognise and appreciate. I hope your journey to reading this letter was
enriched with unimaginable moments, do not lose touch with your past self and
similarly do not dwell on your past self’s blunders and painful nostalgia.
Exist in the current moment and focus on all of which has fallen into place
between writing this letter and reading it.
All The Best As Always,
Love, me.
